In September, the Vision crew set off on a road trip in search of the perfect wave. The first stop was up the beach to Double Island Point and then on to Surf Lakes, Yeppoon.
Chris, Dave, and Ed (from Vision) along with Matthew Hayden (cricket legend) and his kids Grace & Josh hit the road with their Vision vans in tow and headed straight up nature’s highway.
The crew set up camp on Teewah Beach and enjoyed all the creature comforts and luxuries of home. They met up with Chris from Creek to Coast and Ed cooked up a meat feast on the BBQ Smoker on the front of the VX caravan. Good times!
After a night on Teewah Beach, a surf session at Double Island Point, and a bit of fun on the sand putting the vans through their paces, the pilgrimage continued to Surf Lakes, Yeppoon.
A newcomer to the Queensland and Australian Surfing community is the very exciting prospect of Surf Lakes. An artificial wave pool that is causing a splash amongst surfers from across the country, and the world. It’s like something out of a movie. With a symphony of industrial sound, the wave maker is powered up and down by compressed air. This generates a range of different waves, meaning surfers can try more than 4 different breaks in one session. The Surf Lakes technology is designed to potentially produce over 2000 waves per hour suitable for all skill levels and wave craft. It’s easy to see why everyone’s getting excited about Surf Lakes!!
While it’s still only a development site, we’re assured by the Surf Lakes team that it won’t be long before they are open to the public. Get keen.
The Vision vans had a prime position on the waterfront and the crew wasted no time getting in the water to test out the waves. It did not disappoint.
The sibling rivalry was evident with Chris and Dave competing for the best wave (we will let them tell that story). And the overall vibe at Surf Lakes was a win with everyone catching some epic waves and having an awesome time.
